Local Businesses

I support the growth and development of local businesses.

  • Neighborhood businesses enable us to live more efficiently and sustainably.  The business districts along Johnson St. as well as the vast potential along E. Washington Ave. are a tremendous resource. Working with neighbors, I communicated to developers the high priority we place on local and Wisconsin businesses which help strengthen our community, instead of national chain businesses which tend to homogenize our community and funnel dollars to out-of-state headquarters.  I will continue to work with neighbors, developers and the City to attract appropriate new businesses, and to make these districts stronger
  • During the reconstruction of Johnson Street in 2014, businesses along this street need our support … and got it. I worked with neighbors, business owners, contractors and city staff to reduce the impact on local businesses. The mayor answered the call and did a walk through the Johnson Street business corridor and committed his help.
  • As we propose and support new developments or redevelopment, we need to provide opportunities for new business space that complement our existing neighborhood businesses.
